Ban ERP

Suggestion Outline:  As i simply put it, ban ERP from the server.

You can argue that we are all adults and when consent is given there should be nothing wrong with it aslong as it’s kept in private, i do to some extent agree.  

But given recent events i believe ERP has no home for roleplay INGAME. I am fully fine with two people who want to take their romantic ingame relationship somewhere private.

Like DM’s. It’s already been proven countless times that peoples ERP isnt in private because we can get access to it by accident or by trying to. You could do the wrong anim in a chair and blip you’re under the map reading logs even if you didn’t mean to. I dont want to accidently read peoples ERP logs. 

As said before, if you don’t want to be criticized for what you do ingame. Don’t do it ingame. And ofcourse the people who criticize them should behave better. But nobody’s perfect. 

Personally i’d also like to see a ban to people roleplaying sexualized characters to some form, f.ex being very descriptive of their bodyforms and so forth without any need for it. But that’s just an opinion.

What script/development support will it require?:   None, but would need the rules to be changed.

Why will it benefit South Tahoma Roleplay?:  It would benefit the playerbase in general to ban ERP and let people take their eroticism elsewhere. Both the players who feel ostracized and harassed by others and the people who either harass or simply feel a distaste for these individuals. By banning ERP we’d remove so much basis for drama and discord within our already small community, do this and its atleast one way of stopping players going at eachothers throats. (They’ll still do it, but over other things)

Fully in support of this, if you do want to ERP you can always fade to black if it's for development or something but exploring your weird fetishes and fantasies on a video game where logs might get leaked, or when admins have to watch the logs is just beyond me. Remove it or force people to fade to black.

That's the primary problem that the last thread raised. I'm not going to ask staff to read through that just to find people doing the diddle in a private room.

There's a real simple solution; If you accidentally see it, no you didn't. Be an adult and don't go leaking peoples logs. It's fucking weird and childish frankly.

I also worry it's a slippery slope. A character showing public affection? A kiss? A sexually charged comment? I've been staff in enough RP communities to know players will piss and shit themselves over the smallest thing if it's someone they don't like.

It's an adult setting, only adults are meant to be on this server, the game is rated for adults. This is unnecessary.

I think banning it outright is just avoiding the problem; The people doing the harassment.

To be clear though, I do advocate taking that sort of thing to DMs, or at least whispers, but in general? This fixes nothing and just rewards the people who are already harassing others.

Instead of banning ERP because logs might get leaked, we could always just ban logs from being leaked and harshly penalize the people who do it.

It doesnt reward the people who harass others at all, it removes the tool for them to harass. 

We already have rules against sexually charged comments. So that argument isn’t valid. It’s not a slippery slope. Banning ERP isn’t the same as banning characters showing affection. It just removes the ability to do it ingame. 

You said we are all adults, sure. But adults should also know that doing ERP in general isn’t the most mature thing to do. let alone doing it on a server where your logs are easily accessible isn’t a good idea.

To elaborate a bit more, passing around ERP logs to mock people is harassment plain and simple, and having people instantly call ERP "weird fetishes" adds to that harassment. 

As a thought exercise, imagine someone leaks a screenshot of non-sexual RP and passes it around mocking a player about how stupid their RP/character/whatever is. And then people in the discord's general chat started mercilessly trolling the person from the leaked screenshot mocking them for being stupid and sucking at RP. I think we could all agree that would be a terrible toxic environment. So why is it suddenly cool to do when it involves something sexual?

If a kid misbehaves, by hitting another kid with their toys. You don't remove the toys. You tell off the kid.

This sets a poor precedent.

I wonder if you also consider authors immature for including sex scenes in books? 

Anyway, to the bold--are the logs not only supposed to be accessible by admins? Why are they not safe? I find it infinitely more alarming that the implication is that admins are passing around ERP logs. If that is happening, we have a way bigger problem than 2 people writing words you don't approve of at each other in private.

Sure, if you accidently see an ERP log you shouldn’t go spreading it. I agree fully, but. Would you like to see ERP logs? The majority of the playerbase doesn’t afaik.

I literally don't, and haven't ERPed in game, at all. It doesn't interest me.

But banning it outright just vindicates the kind of troglodytes that go around belittling and harassing people for that kind of roleplay.

As said earlier, it removes their tool to do so.  And if we do ban ERP i believe we as a community will see a decrease in said harassment. Your only argument so far is that people shouldn’t harass and that they get rewarded if we ban ERP.
 

There’s no reason to keep ERP ingame, never has been. It just haven’t been a raised issue until now, mainly due to an increase in people who ERP and an increase in leaked logs.  What outweighs banning ERP? Do you believe people will leave the server in protest? 

Or is it more of the matter that you believe if ERP gets banned it will give a ‘win/reward’ to these individuals that you dislike? And that becomes a moral boundary for you? 
 

The reward for the people who harass, is the same reward as the people who do not want to see the arguments and overall drama. It saves people and mainly staff the headache of once again seeing a fight in the discord where people are yapping. Or the reports.

Having RPed since 1998 I can safely tell you that any crusade against ERP will end in failure. People are gonna do it period. People do it in games where it's banned every day. 

The most productive thing to do is to make rules limiting how it can be done, which STRP did. The rules say ERP is permitted but "All forms of sexually explicit roleplay should aim to be roleplayed in a private and secluded area wherever possible."

Someone ERPing in their house is harming no one and IS doing it in a private chat. Literally no one should be seeing their private RP. I don't care what it's about. There's no need for private chatlogs to be read, ever, unless there's an actual investigation going on about rulebreaks/etc. 

You're literally saying "people shouldn't RP privately because a staff member might violate community trust and spread it around to harass them." 

On every community I was ever staff of, it was a bannable offense for anyone to spread screenshots with a malicious attempt to mock, troll or harass other players--ESPECIALLY staff. Doesn't matter if it's ERP or just mocking someone for their RP quality sucking or whatever else. It's absolutely harassment to do that.

I’ve seen several servers having ERP banned and functioning just fine, those people who wished to do it simply did it in private messages. A wonderful system where nobody has the chance to get hurt.

I’d like to add unto this that i was not targetting you by saying grow up.  I was refering to people who ERP ingame. 
 

I have nothing against people who ERP i just believe they shouldn’t be doing it ingame. And can if they wish to take it somewhere only the two or three who wish to do so have less risk of people accidently seeing their logs
