K0range4
Hey folks, Figured it might be fun to talk about some of your character's unique traits, especially things that either rarely or never come up IC. It could be some head canon you have about your character (or a past character) or maybe just a unique quirk. It could be big, like past trauma (a close friend died so now they avoid trusting people or becoming too friendly with others) or maybe something more minor (like being allergic to apples so they never eat or handle apples IC). We often spend a lot of time creating these characters to interact with the world but not everything we come up with becomes relevant or is able to be clearly expressed solely through in game means. Sometimes it just doesn't come up naturally, or sometimes it's more of a background thing that informs your character's current decisions without being explicitly stated. Maybe something brought up in this thread will help others add some flavor to their own characters now, or future characters down the road. So, what are your character's unique traits? 1

Stillwater
Percy always wears an ugly pouch strapped across his chest with flowers on it. It's a bit of a strange fashion choice for a rugged cowboy, but really it's a hand-made bag his mother used to wear and she gave it to him when he left home. He's not taken it off since. 3
Tristbacca
Ringo, an alcoholic who has tried just about everything with a drop of ethanol, stays away from one specific drink; that being Scotch. Surprisingly it isn't due to any kind of allergy or being unable to hold the drink down, but rather superstition. The first time he partook in drinking scotch, it ended with him taking a spill from his horse-- something that resulted in a week-long recovery for a head injury. From then on he's believed it to be the one exception to his vices. The devil's liquor.
Bailey
Really cool thread idea. I dig it. Grayson will actively stay away of gunfights, and in unavoidable gunfights, miss his shots due to a shootout-gone-wrong in his hometown of Chalmette when he was 23, which resulted in the death of a mother of two boys. The death was pinned on the criminal assailants' crossfire and not Grayson through political nepotism, as his Father was the Deputy Chief of Police. Fletcher has been donating to a trust to put the two boys through school ever since. To this day, he can not fire straight due to a severe ignition of trauma upon flinging the barrel of a firearm up. (( I wanted a cool reason to be shit at PVP, and didn't want to be a play-to-win lawman! ))

Love the specificity of avoiding a specific kind of alcohol. 13 hours ago, Bailey said: Really cool thread idea. I dig it. Maybe I need to come up with something like this for being bad at PvP too hahaha
ZeroPants
My hick character doesn't use any sort of guns, he only uses throwing axes and bows for combat. The reasoning for this is that his family was too poor to afford any guns or ammo, so he learned to use cheaper methods to hunt for food. Now that he actually has the money to afford a gun, he still chooses to use more basic weapons because he is used to them.
w3wh_23
Thanks to the fairly new character creation system, I was able to do something unique with my hunter character. With the ability to adjust the left and right eyelid closure, I created a unique injury for my character. He was setting up his camp somewhere in the East Grizzlies when he was suddenly attacked by a grizzly bear. Although he managed to kill the bear with a knife by stabbing it in the heart, the bear still left scars all over his body, including one right across the right part of his face, hitting his eye in the process. He received very poor medical treatment, which resulted in full blindness in his right eye, also leaving his right eye almost fully closed at all times. From then on, he had to learn how to use both a longarm and a revolver with his left hand. Sadly, there is no way for the character to hold weapons with their left hand script-wise, so I resort to using purple text whenever I am aiming. Haven't seen many people put some emphasis on left-handed people, even though it was as common back then as it is right now . Very minor yet a nice detail in my opinion ; )
prophetgirlthing
Desdemona Warwick gets seasickness, so if you’re on a boat with her, it’s likely the only time someone outside of a close circle of people will see her unruffled to the point of her actress-made façade being completely broken. Unruffled being an understatement because she’ll just straight up be puking over the side of a canoe in under an hour. She, relatedly, cannot swim. Dr. Elizabeth Meyers pursued a double major in Anatomy and Midwifery throughout her time in Hampton and Howard University. She was inspired to go this route by Dr. Rebecca Crumpler, the first accredited Black female doctor in America as of 1864, who had published work in childcare. In the months before she arrived to Tahoma with her father, she was organizing an emergency clinic in San Fransisco’s Chinatown to treat an ongoing epidemic of the bubonic plague diminished by the papers and racist rhetoric of the time.
souti
Nathan went through a traumatic experience because of a kid he was fond of, and now as a lawman his greatest weakness is young, aspiring gunslingers, outlaws among them. He'll try to see the good in them even if there is none. metagame it 3 2
Prankln
August is wasted, he's pulled out like a secret weapon. They only want him to shoot, he wants a family. Now he's an outlaw

I really like the seasickness and swimming one because it's so specific and realistic. And I love the historical relevance of the second one! TheFerrymanofStyx
Despite carrying a revolver on him at all times, Boone Maddock very rarely handles it or draws it; he keeps it around for show more than anything. The few times he has had to draw it, it usually ends with him freezing up. This is due to the first kill he ever made, a young man whose life he took with, you guessed it, a revolver. Thanks to this, he favors a rifle and shotgun over any other weaponry.
