AtzerriGold
Quote Armadillo, once a bustling and thriving town, is now a ghost town on the New Austin frontier. Plagued by sickness, devastated by recent conflict and violence, it has been forgotten by the ambitious American spirit that previously sought the promise of fortune. What remains now are lingering vultures and a handful of stubborn locals, both scavenging among the decayed remnants to survive. It would be an alluring challenge to those who seek to withdraw from modern comforts, however, will they stay long? This harsh place shall surely test their mettle. Only the most resilient will find hope to survive and the fortitude to endure. Words of the past still echo in the minds of many... However, this is a story of rebirth and hope, a future less bleak and barren. Armadillo has seen new life breathed into it in recent months. The slow rebuilding of a community to the eventual restoration of the town itself and repairs of the railroad between West Elizabeth and New Austin, have all lead to the boomtown finally exploding back onto the map. With stability restored and an expanding trade network that sees goods imported and exported; the town grows not only in business but in population too, drawing settlers from all walks of life to its hot, dusty landscape. Though do not be fooled, for the road to heaven is paved with blood, sweat, and tears. Danger still lurks around every corner. Nuevo Armadillo is all about life in a harsh, unforgiving environment that is isolated/disconnected from much of Tahoma. With poverty and struggles often comes a sense of community and family - those who have little, band together for survival. The town is small, humble, and plagued by constant problems be that the wildlife, those with ill-intentions, or simply the weather, however... Armadillo is rich in culture, vibrancy, and tenacity in the face of adversity. Armadillo is a home for the outcasts, the tough, and those wanting to start fresh or try their luck on the frontier. Anyone is welcome providing they pull their weight and understand the true meaning of hard work. The struggle is what bring these diverse people together. New Austin Timelines 1860 - 1899 1900 Spoiler Spoiler The Paayu Nation Spoiler Whilst this faction has been archived, there are still Paayu characters in the area. The faction became part of Nuevo Armadillo's lore, and we want to try and keep the lore alive. Click the image below to visit the original thread. The Mexican Insurrection Spoiler In the waning days of October 1899, Colonel Oscar Santiago del Trono, driven by a fierce desire to reclaim lands lost after the Mexican-American War, led a ragtag force of conscripted peasants and his personal guard on a doomed reconquest. Their goal: the rugged lands of New Austin. Leading the Mexican forces, Trono and his infamous second-in-command, Major Felipe Salas—nicknamed "Hannibal del Nuevo Paraíso"—pressed on, despite the odds. Opposing them was Captain Uriah Reid of the 1st Tahoma Volunteer Cavalry, a determined leader backed by his loyal officers, including 1st Lieutenant Thomas Blocker. The conflict quickly spiralled into a bloody border war, beginning with the infamous massacres at Tumbleweed and the Gaptooth Ridge Mine, where Mexican forces showed little mercy. Benedict Point became the site of the fiercest battle, a brutal clash that saw heavy losses on both sides but yielded no strategic advantage. As the war raged, the small settlement of Armadillo became a fleeting hub of activity, with local businesses booming briefly before tragedy struck. Both the newly elected Mayor Jimboy Milk and Sheriff Donald Hayes met untimely deaths, mirroring the chaos of the larger conflict in the arid region. Despite the reckless fervour of Colonel del Trono, whose efforts were rumoured to have the silent support of President Díaz's regime, the tide turned against the Mexican forces. The conflict reached its climax in mid-November when Captain Reid launched a decisive assault with his men, on the Mexican stronghold at Rathskeller Fork. The battle was brutal, but by the time it ended, the Mexican forces were broken. Most of their command, save for the Colonel himself, had been annihilated. As Colonel del Trono fled under the cover of night, the border war ended as abruptly as it had begun. The 1st Tahoma Volunteer Cavalry emerged victorious, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake and cementing the futility of del Trono’s ill-fated campaign. This information was kindly provided to me by @potatogod13 & @BebopMonk as a Q&A. I ran that through Chat GPT to get the following story as it is not mine to tell, this is a more interesting read than the Q&A. If you have images or any additional information as someone who was there at the time, please reach out to me via Discord: AtzerriGold Nuevo Armadillo is NOT an IC name, it is the OOC name of the faction. Spoiler What is Nuevo Armadillo? A hopeful attempt to slowly bring a little life to the troubled town of Armadillo. This project established a small community with a shared goal of roleplaying in unforgiving and somewhat isolated territory. This story-driven collaboration focuses on the daily hardships of life, and emphasizes slow-burn restoration. We're committed for long-term settlement and encourage creative minds that will bring a variety of characters that will inspire others. Script support? This project was conceptualized prior to server support. The absence of scripts was fully embraced by the group as it created the neccessity for cooperation and participation. We'd be interested to work as a team with those individuals who are interested in the new whitelisted jobs. The community can come together to create a story in which the established settlers come to help a small businesses move, pry open boarded up buildings and slowly build up the town, a building at a time. So what's next? If you are interested in being part of Nuevo Armadillo and have been unsuccessful finding us IC; please reach out to @AtzerriGold on Discord (same username) as we have a small server that will soon host more information and organisation. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us. This thread aims to act as a community thread for anyone within the faction to showcase their RP, even if it doesn't specifically include Armadillo residents every time. It won't be possible to showcase our RP in chronological order due to the number of people involved in the faction. 16
AtzerriGold
Spoiler @AtzerriGold Carina Carvallo Selvantes de Secada, born to an immigrant mother and a Tejanos father. All her life she has known nothing but the dusty rolling hills of New Austin, with little in the way of income or commodities. Her father ensured both loves of his life knew how to use the family coach gun and six shooter, giving him some peace of mind when he left for weeks on end. As she grew older, it was obvious that her father worked with folk of ill repute but she said nothing to sway his choices since it kept food in their bellies and a roof above their heads. A lot of the chores around the home fell then to her and her mother while her father was off gallivanting with bandits and brigands. Her mother tended to what few crops they could muster to grow in the harsh, tough ground, picking up on techniques and aiding where she could until she herself was a capable green thumb. Raúl and Carina's paths intertwined while he worked as a hand for a nearby horsing ranch and with her fathers blessing, they eventually married at Old Coots Church in Armadillo. Her father always spoke of giving up the life, promising every time he shadowed the doorway that it'd be the last time. Though knowing that she was in the care of a man who's world revolved around her, made him comfortable breaking that promise and one day, he never returned. The news of her fathers death was the word around Blackwater, caught alongside several others and put to the gallows for their crimes. Her mother relayed the news to Carina and shortly after fell ill. Carina still believes the loss of her father the true cause of her mothers demise, witnessing her withering away to consumption which she blamed on a broken heart. Spoiler @WesTheFirst Raúl Sarmiento Secada de Trincheras, born into this world the son of a ranchero and from the moment he saw the world from his father's saddle, was destined to grow up with a vagabond's heart. In the arid plains of Sonora, amidst the tall tales and questionable truths of roving vaqueros that worked the open range, Raúl found the answer to quell his yearning for lands beyond the horizon. From the day he left, Raúl has built a reputation as a capable horseman and skilled roper who plied his trade at the haciendas and ranches scattered throughout northern Mexico and the border states of Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, until inevitably winding up in Tahoma. There was little he hadn't done or seen on the plains, yet nothing had perturbed him or fully satiated his urge to roam. Until, like many a man before him, a woman entered his life that drowned his desire to wander. With the savings he'd made from a life of toil, he promised her security and contentment, comfort without stress. He showed her his world and soon she became it, a home on the hill for their future would be subject to the trials and tribulations of many homesteaders. Eventually, greed borne from good intentions would see him leave her behind to do what he did best on the open trail, hoping to return to her with enough riches to ensure they wouldn't struggle through another drought or suffer poverty from a collapsing town. Spoiler @Ludos Yatho 'Blue Dewdrop' Chumani, is a young Nokota man, looking in around his mid-twenties, with a stoic blue gaze who hints to his mixed heritage. He doesn't hide that fact and you will see him grimace at the thought of the one all the way in Grizzly. He spent most of his life Nomadic, jumping from one place to an other , tracking the herds. It is no exception in the grand state of Tahoma and is actually how he ended up in New Austin in the first place. While he is secretive about where he resided specifically, he makes a point to check on the desert people when he can afford it, offering help and trade to those he deem worthy. Spoiler @Bloo_the_boo TBA Spoiler @w3wh_23 Davis Clark, originally born in East Grizzlies in the year 1839. He was born into a small family of hunters just by O'Creagh's Run, he was taught everything by his father. From fishing to hunting, Davis wouldn't be the man he is if it wasn't for his father, Henry. Davis would rarely talk with anyone outside his family; he would usually spend most of his time hunting and tracking animals with his father. He was taught how to use a rifle from an early age. Even though his father's rifle would send him flying, he still knew how to operate one. Years went by as Davis grew more and more. Despite the fact that he made more than enough money to afford himself a house, he still preferred to live in a tent in the middle of nowhere. He pursued his father's career by making a living through hunting and fishing. He was rather adventurous and would chase after the biggest game in the state. He mostly hunted larger game like elk, moose, bears, and the like. He was a lucky son of a bitch, so he never suspected anything would happen to him. Until one day, he was unexpectedly jumped by a giant grizzly bear while setting up his camp. He wouldn't have survived that attack if it wasn't for a stranger riding by who noticed Davis struggling with the bear on top of him. That injury left Davis lying at the doctor's office for a long time, leaving him with a lifetime scar on his face which damaged his right eye forever. After the injury, Davis decided to be more careful while hunting. He took his time to get back in the game by learning how to use a rifle with his left eye, since his right eye was barely functioning. It wasn't easy, but sooner or later he returned to his regular life. As more years went by, he grew older and older. He would've continued his tent-living lifestyle, but his health refused to cooperate. At that point, he decided to join Schultz's Mining Company as a security guard. He worked in the company for a few months to earn enough for a house. It wasn't easy with his age and all the Annesburg fumes, but after some time he had enough money to afford a house in his home region of East Grizzlies. After living there for a few months, he realized his health was getting worse, and he could no longer live so far north as the cold wasn't easy on his joints, essentially limiting him to staying around the house on cold days. He always hated the swamps and would never move anywhere close to Saint Denis, so his next best choice was New Austin, where he set off soon after to find a new life for the last few years he had left. .
