Colter

“The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.”

― H.P. Lovecraft

Colter is an isolated township amidst the northern territories of Ambarino - otherwise referred to as the "West Grizzlies".  Established in 1879 by its namesake "J. F. Colter" - it became one of the few operations to contend with Annesburg's grip on the mining industry. Such competition birthed prominent housing, a local church, commerce, and education for families of working men. Colter's industry provided hefty wages and tyrannical oversight by its proprietor - and such was a driving factor for its initial success. Unfortunately, J. F. Colter was all too fueled by hubris - focusing his efforts and attention away from infrastructure and societal needs. Shoddy buildings and lacking forethought were the catalysts to this town's demise. In the year of 1884, it was all over. The town drowned in a horrid storm - and took the legacy of Colter with it. It's now a relic of the past.

Winter is not a season, it's an occupation.

― Sinclair Lewis

Colter is not for the weak. The unparalleled cold and blinding white leave little to the imagination: a bleak, wintery desolation zone. For years, it's remained untouched by human intervention - giving way to all manner of wildlife to flourish. Snowbound trails lay buried beneath the ice, lined with frozen corpses of those daring enough to traverse this domain. This glacial region had been an afterthought for most souls, and even the most daring of industrialists were thwarted from revitalizations. It's here that all human life meets an untimely end, suffering the worst of Mother Nature's scorn, and her devilish wolf spawn. Nevertheless, new faces have begun to appear... All with stories plentiful.

Word has spread: banishment is worse than death. Criminals, beware - your party now has an alternative. This frigid wasteland now serves as the finish line for any exodus. The empty hills, scarce resources, and horrid weather are only a few elements to consider - but loneliness is the worst of them all. The dangerous landscape is personified hell, frozen ten times over, now a home to all manner of souls unworthy of their accompaniment. Venture to the unknown by force or voluntary escapism, and enter the feudal realms of the north. Convene with other lost souls to survive, or murder those that trespass against your camp. There are no rules in this limbo-like region. Any small mistake can be a devastating blow, but risks must be taken.

Those daring enough, or those forced into this territory will be expected to take heed: the cold is a constant enemy. Firewood must be restocked, food must be hunted, and characters without proper attire will surely die amidst the soonest storm. This is where stories come to an end, and characters will be bound to this region unless given proper guidance or support to escape. This concept is entirely comprised to afford an alternative for player-groups to banish their members, or force rivals to exile. There is no law, leftover goods, or "easy outs". It's all one, horrid, trifling experience - made for those that'll tame this wildland, or die at the hands of it.

Good luck.
