  1. Fall, 1883. A murder makes the papers for miles around; a cattle baron killed on the range out by the Montana River. His name was Clyde MacFarlane, and he'd been in charge of the family seat on Hennigan's Stead for three years. A charismatic leader, Clyde acted trail boss when a drought crippled the ranch over the summer months. The land was sunscorched and the cows suffered for it; in the end, only thing to do was to lead them to water. Were it not for a pair of survivors, José and Bartosz, the papers might've chosen to use the word 'killed' and not 'murdered.' See, the drive was ambushed on its way to Stillwater Creek by Indian cattle rustlers; it's said they incited a stampede with an echo of gunfire and a chorus of thundering horses, whose riders' fearful cries fanned the flames of the cowherd's panic. One by one, by the survivors' accounts, even the ablest of swing riders were thrown from their saddles and tramped underfoot by their animals. The herd was lost, save for a scant few found by the creek once the dust had settled, because all but two of the men who rode out to water lived to tell the tale. So in one fell swoop, the MacFarlanes' beloved patriarch, their ranch manager and the bulk of their best cowboys were now dead. With a great deal of the hands and herd waylaid by the local Indians, this shall prove to be the greatest trial of the MacFarlanes in America. Present Day Like a prize bull, Clyde was raised to inherit the ranch. He lived and breathed his legacy unlike his brothers, Barney and Roy. Barney was born second and in many ways it was as if the Lord had marked him from that day to come second in all things. They say the child not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth, but Barney's never had those kind of guts. Hell, he couldn't even find the courage to go searching for those Indians when his brother died. A bonafide coward; that's what they say. Roy on the other hand has bluster enough to go around. He's the youngest and most rebellious of the MacFarlane offspring by far, which has landed him in all manner of unruly situations over the years, often leaving the ranch to pursue (largely unsuccessful) hunts for wealth and glory. It comes then as a surprise that the ungovernable son returned to the fold at his mother's behest when Clyde was murdered. On that fateful day the widowed old Myrtle MacFarlane took one look at Barney and made the executive decision to supplant his inheritance for her own. With such dire circumstances upon them, he was certain to run the family ranch to the ground and, regarded as something of a battleaxe, no one tried to stop her—least of all her yellow-bellied son. Clyde was survived by his children, Nellie and Avery, now orphaned. With the ranch on the cusp of ruin, they must find the means to earn their keep and, if their uncles fail to impress, perhaps stake their own claim. Five months have passed and a tense chill quivers across the dusty earth of Hennigan's Stead in equal measures vengeance and fear. Conventions are broken in the name of survival; people of all colors are welcomed to the fold, for many hands make light work; a Pole is ranch manager, and a Mexican the wrangler of the MacFarlane remuda; a woman dictates the path of the biggest ranching operation in the territory and in their darkest hour, one would do well to remember that in their blood is tyranny.

  4. Little Creek Ranch is a small scale ranch situated in Big Valley, West Elizabeth county. It is named after the creek that cuts through the valley and helps feed the fertile pastures. The area itself is considered challenging due to the cold winters and the abundance of predators - wolves, grizzlies, and the occasional cougar make the region intimidating for settling & livestock rearing. Despite this and its comparable lack of infrastructure it sits on the only range-land north of the lower Montana river & west of the Dakota river, with close proximity to the town of Strawberry. Little Creek has had a history of being taken up and abandoned; from the challenges of the West Elizabeth insurrection that marred the county to the difficulty of life in such a climate. None the less any astute rancher would likely see the potential of the range-land - if fortune and determination could see them through the seasons in such a place. Under its current management the ranch is predominantly focused on the pasturing of cattle for beef commercially. Other ventures are possible to pursue in the realm of homesteading and modest business opportunities but cattle-ranching is the primary, driving, focus of Little Creek Ranch. What's your deal? How can I get involved?
  5. In the heart of The Heartlands, where the land stretches wide and the sky seems endless, a new chapter was unfolding for the White Family. This was the land where Grace and Jared's paths had first crossed, their destinies intertwining in the embrace of these rolling hills. Now, months later, they had returned to this special place, not just as visitors but as its new stewards. The Robinsons, who had cherished this land like a beloved family member, had chosen to pass it on to the Whites. They trusted that no one else could care for it with the same affection and dedication. Their faith was not misplaced. Surrounded by lush greenery and towering trees, the land was alive with the buzz of wildlife and the promise of fertile soil. It was a canvas for a life of farming, with fields ready for grazing and the tranquility of a simpler, serene existence. As the Whites settled in, they felt the land's warmth and potential, knowing they were part of something enduring and beautiful. History Character introductions Jared White: In the vast expanse of Austin, Texas, Jared's story unfolded on the rugged terrain of his family's ranch. Raised under the watchful eye of his grandfather, he learned the ropes of ranch life from a tender age. From tending to the horses and cattle to nurturing the modest farm they owned, Jared grew up immersed in the rhythms of rural existence. But amidst the chores and responsibilities, Jared found moments of camaraderie with his peers and elders. Together, they ventured into mischief and honed their skills, whether it was mastering the art of gunplay or simply finding trouble to stir up. Jared knew that one day, the knowledge he gained in handling firearms would be crucial, especially when safeguarding the herd from prowling predators. Yet, life on the ranch wasn't all idyllic. Sneaking into town with his loyal friend Jimmy often led to rowdy escapades and drunken escapades, leaving them with tales to recount and bruises to hide. Despite the occasional chaos, Jared cherished the simplicity of ranch life as he transitioned into adulthood, taking on greater responsibilities like herding cattle and overseeing sales. However, tragedy struck when Jared's beloved grandfather passed away, leaving the ranch in the hands of his father, a man consumed by alcohol and cruelty. The once-cherished homestead became a prison of misery for Jared and his family, with his father's tyrannical rule casting a shadow over their lives. Desperate for escape, Jared seized the opportunity of a lucrative sale in Blackwater, a distant town beckoning with the promise of freedom. Embarking on the arduous journey from Texas to New Austin and finally to Blackwater, Jared encountered trials that tested his mettle and molded his character. Each town they passed through left its mark on him, shaping him into a hardened traveler. Upon reaching Blackwater, Jared made a solemn vow to himself: he would never return to the suffocating grip of his father's tyranny. In this bustling frontier town, amidst the hustle and bustle of new beginnings, Jared found solace and the chance to forge his own path, leaving behind the only life he'd ever known for a future filled with uncertainty and possibility. Grace Dawson: Grace's life before the tragedy was idyllic, steeped in the rugged beauty of the American frontier. Born into a loving family on a sprawling ranch, she grew up amidst the sweeping plains and rolling hills of the countryside. Her parents instilled in her a sense of kindness and resilience, teaching her to appreciate the simple pleasures of life. As the youngest of four siblings, Grace was the apple of her parents' eyes. She shared a special bond with her three older brothers, spending her days riding horses, helping with chores, and exploring the vast expanse of their land. Together, they forged memories that seemed destined to last a lifetime. However, when Grace was just 16 years old, tragedy struck with the force of a thunderbolt. Bandits descended upon their ranch under the cover of night, their intentions as dark as the shadows they emerged from. In a horrifying blur of violence, her parents were mercilessly gunned down, and their home was consumed by flames that licked hungrily at the night sky. Amidst the chaos and confusion, Grace and her brothers were forced to flee for their lives, their world crumbling around them. In the frantic scramble to escape, they became separated, each swept away by the tumult of the night. Grace, clutching onto her beloved horse Jasmine, rode into the darkness with tears streaming down her face, her heart heavy with grief and fear. In the years that followed, Grace wandered the unforgiving landscape, haunted by the memories of that fateful night. With Jasmine by her side, she survived through sheer determination and grit, taking on whatever odd jobs came her way to eke out a meager existence in a world that had turned harsh and unforgiving. The story unfolds Chapter 1 Jared found himself adrift, lost in a sea of aimlessness and seeking solace in fleeting pleasures. To earn his keep, he offered his skills as a hired gun to anyone willing to pay, from the locals to even law enforcement. Money, fleeting as it was, became his sole pursuit, squandered on women and drinks in a bid to drown out the emptiness gnawing at his soul. From safeguarding caravans to riding alongside the Marshals, Jared courted danger with reckless abandon, yearning for a swift end to his existence. However, fate intervened when he crossed paths with an old acquaintance, Veronica Grimm, now a resident of Saint Denis. She urged him to reconsider his reckless ways, offering him a chance at a more stable and less perilous life in the bustling city. Moved by her words, Jared eventually set out for Saint Denis, but fate had other plans. Lost, hungry, and weary on the road, he stumbled upon Trinity Meadows Ranch in the Heartlands, where he found warmth, hospitality, and a sense of belonging. Despite the brevity of his stay, the ranch felt like home, and Jared forged connections with its inhabitants. Yet, danger lurked in the shadows, as Jared narrowly escaped an ambush on his journey. Fueled by a sense of duty, he returned to warn the ranch, earning the respect of its owner in the process. Offered a job as a ranch hand, Jared seized the opportunity, relinquishing his Saint Denis aspirations in favor of a simpler life. As days turned into months, Jared flourished on the ranch, finding purpose and companionship in his work and in Grace Dawson, a fellow ranch hand who after years of wandering and surviving on her own, Grace's journey led her to a place she never expected to find: Trinity Meadows Ranch as well. Nestled amidst the rolling hills and lush pastures, it was a beacon of hope amidst the vast expanse of the frontier. It was Jeremiah and Mary Robinson, the kind-hearted owners of Trinity Meadows, who welcomed Grace into their fold with open arms. Seeing the determination and resilience in her eyes, they offered her a job as a ranch hand, sensing that she had a spirit as untamed as the land itself. Under the guidance of Jeremiah and Mary, Grace threw herself into her work with a fervor unmatched by any before her. She tended to the livestock with care, repaired fences with unwavering determination, and worked the land with a sense of purpose that belied her tumultuous past. Alongside her duties, Grace formed deep bonds with her fellow ranch hands, Sidney Meadows, a reserved woman with a quiet strength that belied her gentle demeanor, and Evelyn West, whose infectious energy and fierce spirit matched Grace's own. Yet, it was the arrival of a new ranch hand that would change Grace's life in ways she never thought possible. Jared White sauntered onto Trinity Meadows with a cocksure grin and a quick wit that belied his rugged exterior. Grace, wary of his charms and determined to keep her distance, met him with a sharp tongue and a guarded heart. But fate had other plans, and despite her best efforts to resist, Grace found herself drawn to Jared like a moth to a flame. Their banter sparked with an undeniable chemistry, their laughter echoing across the fields as they worked side by side. And in the quiet moments beneath the stars, amidst the whispering grass and the gentle sway of the trees, their walls began to crumble, revealing the tender hearts that beat within. Their love breathed new life into Jared's weary soul, reigniting dreams long forgotten in the depths of his past. However, challenges loomed on the horizon, from the threat of bandits to the mysterious disappearances plaguing the region. Determined to build a future together, Jared and Grace embarked on a quest to realize their dream of owning a place of their own. With their life savings pooled and a resolve as strong as steel, they set their sights on Harmony Hill Farm in Southfield Flats, ready to embark on a new chapter of their lives, guided by love and shared dreams. Eager to begin their new life together, Jared and Grace decided to elope, exchanging vows in a clandestine ceremony before revealing their marriage to their astonished friends and family. Among them was their loyal companion, Evelyn West, whose bond with Grace was too strong to sever. The trio, united by friendship and purpose, set out for their new home, knowing that facing life's challenges together would be far more bearable. Settling into their new surroundings, the trio threw themselves into the work of the farm with unwavering dedication. Their efforts soon caught the attention of Isaiah Warner, known fondly as Ike, who offered his assistance. A friendship blossomed between Jared and Ike, while Evelyn found herself drawn to his affections. With their newfound camaraderie and a bountiful harvest, the quartet embarked on a journey to meet the locals of Rhodes and as days went one, together as a united team began with a firm foundation, as Jared, Grace, Evelyn, and Ike toiled harmoniously in the fields, pouring their hearts into every task. As the harvest season dawned, their efforts bore fruit, yielding a bounty that surpassed their expectations. With pride and excitement, they embarked on their maiden delivery, eager to share the fruits of their labor with their dear friend, Sidney Meadows, whose bakery in Saint Denis awaited their arrival. Sidney's warm reception not only filled their hearts with joy but also opened their eyes to the vast array of business prospects awaiting them in the bustling city. Encouraged by Sidney's insight, they realized the potential for expansion beyond the confines of their humble farm. As word of their success spread, merchants from far and wide began flocking to their doorstep, eager to strike lucrative deals. With each transaction, their enterprise flourished, marking the beginning of a prosperous chapter in their lives. And so, amidst the backdrop of their growing business ventures, their story unfolds, brimming with promise and opportunity. Their first ever home together, the first step they laid together, where the story of Grace and Jared White began through marriage and the two started making a name for themselves all over Tahoma. Nestled in the serene Southfield Flats just Northwest of Rhodes, lay Harmony Hill Farm, a quaint parcel of land owned by the Whites family. This picturesque farm wasn't just a plot of earth; it was the heart of a close-knit community. The Whites, along with their intimate circle of friends and dedicated workers, cultivated the sprawling fields surrounding their home. Their labor bore fruit, quite literally, as the farm primarily yielded an abundance of fruits. They tended to their crops with care, trading their bountiful harvest at the local marketplace for goods they couldn't cultivate in the region's fickle weather. Within this small, yet vibrant community, bonds ran deep. Through the seasons, they stood united, facing the challenges of rural life head-on. Together, they carved out a way of life, weaving their destinies into the fabric of the newly acquired farm. Chapter 2 As months drifted by on the farm, the couple found themselves enveloped in a bustling community of friends and family, all pitching in to work the land. It was a mixed blessing; more hands meant greater productivity in fields, hunting, and farm protection, but it also brought a sense of crowding as living quarters became tight. With a baby on the way, they began to question whether this was the ideal setting to raise a family. Dreams of a spacious, idyllic locale began to occupy their thoughts. They embarked on a journey of saving, harboring hopes of one day leaving Lemoyne behind for a place with milder, more inviting weather. Their aspirations extended beyond mere relocation; they yearned to return to their roots, reviving the tradition of caring for horses and cattle, a profession they both cherished from childhood. Restlessness crept into Jared's spirit as he tirelessly scoured for opportunities to secure a new beginning for his family in a more suitable environment. And as the sun dipped low over the horizon, casting long shadows across the sprawling fields of their farm, Grace and Jared stood side by side, their gazes fixed on the ranch across the way. It had been a long journey, filled with dashed hopes and broken dreams, but they had finally come to a decision. Their hearts heavy with resignation, they turned away from the vista that had once held so much promise. The Hawkins family, their dear friends and neighbors, had long since departed, leaving the once-vibrant ranch abandoned and forlorn. It was a far cry from the idyllic retreat they had envisioned for themselves, but it was a start. The couple made their way back to their farmhouse, the weight of their decision settling upon them like a heavy blanket. It wasn't the dream they had chased for so long, but it was practical. The house was larger, with plenty of space for the cattle they hoped to raise and the horses they longed to protect. With a weary sigh, they set to work, packing their belongings and preparing for the move up the hill to the ranch. It would be a fresh start, they told themselves, a chance to build something new from the ashes of their shattered dreams. Using a portion of their hard-earned fortune, they purchased the animals they would need to begin their venture into the world of ranching. It was a gamble, to be sure, but it was one they were willing to take. As they stood on the threshold of their new home, the sun sinking below the horizon, they allowed themselves to hope once more. Perhaps, just perhaps, this humble beginning would be the start of something grand. Maybe one day, they dared to dream, they would leave behind the unpredictable weather of Lemoyne and stake their claim in the lucrative world of horse breeding. But for now, they would content themselves with the simple pleasures of country life, knowing that they had each other and the promise of a brighter tomorrow to guide them on their journey. Chapter 3 Today marked a pivotal turn in my life as I found myself standing before Sheriff Linwood, accepting the weight of the badge. Lemoyne had become a battleground for lawlessness, and I could no longer stand idly by while my family's future hung in the balance. To be honest, I wasn't thrilled with the decision. But with a scarcity of volunteers willing to uphold order, I knew I had to step forward. For Grace's sake, for our promise of a peaceful life, I had to confront the chaos head-on. "I won't play the hero," I had told Grace before. Yet here I was, donning the badge with a newfound sense of determination. Perhaps I could make a difference, perhaps my actions could reflect the change I yearned to see. Or maybe it was all a naive fantasy. One thing was certain: as I walked out of that office, I carried with me a resolve that could ignite a storm. Hell might be coming, but I would meet it, armed not just with a badge, but with the hope of safeguarding the future I envisioned for my family. Hell's coming with me. Chapter 4 After months of toil in Lemoyne, where our journey began with just me, your mother, and our friend Eve, our small venture into farming grew into something substantial. We worked hard, and our reputation spread far and wide—from the bustling streets of Saint-Denis to the quiet corners of Blackwater. Customers from across Tahoma sought out our produce, and our deliveries crisscrossed the region, establishing our farm as a key player in the industry. Lemoyne's weather was far from ideal, but it provided us with a home and a thriving business we had built from scratch. Your mother, despite her penchant for spending, was diligent with our savings. Every month, she carefully set aside funds, nurturing our dream of a better place—one with more land, cattle, and perhaps horses. As my grandfather used to say, "Money in the cattle, pride in the horses," and we took that to heart. After enduring some tough times and difficult memories at the farm, we made the decision to sell it. Mister Claiborne was the fortunate buyer, and with the proceeds, we acquired the Hawkins ranch just across the hill. It was a fresh start, a new chapter we embraced with enthusiasm. However, the last month at the Hawkins ranch was particularly challenging and only reinforced our desire for change. Just as the Robinsons decided to sell their cherished ranch, we found ourselves in the fortunate position to secure it despite many competing offers. It felt like a return to our roots, to where it all began. Your mother's true home was now within reach once more. We were eager to breathe the cool, crisp air, revel in the lush greenery, and revive the memories we cherished. This land had taken care of us once before, and now it was our turn to show it the same care and respect as we settled into our new home. Chapter 5 A few months had passed, and the Whites were now well-settled at the Heartlands, fashionably referred to as Harmony Hill. And with their friends and family around them, they took in this new chapter in their lives, far from Lemoyne's sweltering, humid air into the crisp, rejuvenating breezes that whipped across the rolling landscape. The change of life was heralded by storms that came unexpectedly, startling their quietness now and then, but every raindrop refreshed them anew. They had lost a host of friends, but the Whites made new acquaintances in New Hanover and became closer to the friendlier people of Sunset Dale. What started as mere acquaintances turned out into good friends, as they were now neighbors. The many trials were not without their struggles to adapt to the new environment. Most recently, the hurricane that hit Texas was the one most feared; its onslaught against Tahoma put a pall on the atmosphere of the area. In the days after that, hope blossomed anew. The business was prospering, and the town was rebuilding. Harmony Hill breathed life with its quiet cadence. Storm days threatened to rattle their resolve-literally and otherwise, were the days when Grace and Jared could feel each other's presence. Every struggle wove itself into their bond, pulling them together with a determination to ride thick and thin. Amongst the colorful events coloring their months in New Hanover were the joyful Valentine's town party and lively country fair; such gatherings brought laughter together with the scents of homemade treats. It was events like these that brought together townspeople and strangers alike; it was there that new friendships and partnerships forged. Finally, during this time, the beginning of its success, a new booth in Valentine had set up and attracted the inhabitants and wanderers alike. But there was also some hardship associated with each of those rewards. Rumors of unrest in the West began to grow louder as New Austin refugees, looking for a haven, started streaming east. Banditos roamed the roads, threatening the hard-won peace. The challenges that lay before them were enormous, not only for the Whites but also for the whole area around Harmony Hill. Together, they would make their way through the misty landscape, their resolve joined in the defense of this new home and one another. Chapter 6 November 17th, 1900, will always stand out as the beginning of a new chapter for us. It was the day you were born, Alex. But before that day, we must go back a week earlier, when the harshness of winter had already begun to settle in. We were working hard to prepare for the season, stocking up on food, supplies, lumber, and medicine to survive the cold months ahead. At the same time, the demands of business were increasing. Folks in town and our business partners were all scrambling for the same resources, and I found myself constantly reaching out to the locals, connecting them with other farms and ranches, including ours, to make sure everyone had what they needed. It was exhausting. My days were filled with tending to our fields and maintaining contact with our neighbors, as we all worked together to ensure Valentine could survive the winter. But through it all, there was one thing I couldn’t ignore: your mother. I noticed how restless she had become, and her words, though filled with both joy and concern, were clear—she felt that you were coming sooner than we both expected. I knew it was time for me to step back from the work and focus on her. Peter and Seth could handle things for now, and I trusted them to see it through. We began visiting Doctor Shaw more frequently. On the days we didn’t see her, she would stop by the ranch instead, but travel was becoming harder with the snow falling steadily. And then came the day—the 17th of November. We stopped at Valentine to see the doctor, but even before she confirmed it, your mother already knew. You were on your way. I had a decision to make: do I stay in Valentine for the night, where the weather would only get worse, or risk traveling home? The doctor advised against it, but your mother was insistent. She wanted to be at home. So, I hired a stagecoach, and we made the slow journey back, the wind howling and the snow piling up. The doctor promised she would follow soon after. Once we were home, I asked Helen to prepare everything your mother might need. I stayed by her side, but I knew I had to make sure we had help when the time came. I rode over to our neighbors to see if any of the women might be able to assist the doctor when she arrived. But it was all in vain—no one could come. Then, a stranger appeared—Leon Beauchamp, looking for work. My mind was racing, consumed with worry about your mother, but without much thought, I hired him. "Your first task," I told him, "is to go get Doctor Shaw." And, like some kind of miracle, Leon returned just in time. With his help, I was able to stay with your mother, comforting her as we waited for the doctor. When Doctor Shaw finally arrived, the storm had intensified. The wind howled louder, and the snow came down in thick sheets. But then, after three long hours, you arrived. It was 6:50 PM, the world outside a blizzard, and there you were—tiny, perfect, and already part of our story. Just as we were beginning to celebrate your arrival, Jeremy May stopped by, seeking shelter from the storm. But when he saw you, he was as surprised as we were. He couldn’t just stay quietly—he insisted on riding back to tell his sister, Ginny. Word spread quickly after that, and before long, our house was filled with family and friends, all eager to meet you. As the storm calmed, more people arrived. Ginny, accompanied by Jeremy, came with Gabriel Wolfe and his wife, who were out getting their Christmas tree when they decided to join us instead. Anne McKenzie showed up with herbs and goods from the Broussard family, Mister Macklin and Elza brought flowers, food, and more supplies and Eve Harkin with her son Liam. Ginny insisted on preparing something for us, so I asked Helen to give her a hand. I couldn’t help but smile as Jeremy, always the helper, jumped in to assist as well. Together, they made a hearty vegetable soup, and we had coffee to keep us warm. Soon, laughter filled the house, and we could feel the joy of the day settling in. As the weather worsened again, our guests decided to leave, so as not to be stranded, but not before giving us space to rest and enjoy our new family. It was nothing short of a miracle. From Leon’s timely arrival to the outpouring of support from family and friends, it felt like the world had come together to welcome you into it. With you, Alex, we now face a new chapter in our lives. We are ready, and most importantly, we are looking forward to our first Christmas together. A few days after you were born, word of your arrival spread like wildfire; soon enough, even more of our friends came by to meet you. It really felt like the whole town was buzzing with excitement. Our dear friends Violet O'Malley and Dustin West, followed by Deputy McGraw, were some of the first to arrive. And it wasn't long after that the Claibornes showed up, bringing along with them the supplies I needed for Violet. A nice coincidence, no, perfect alignment of the old and new passing and present friends. The Claibornes got to meet Violet, but most importantly, you, Alex. We spent the time near the warmth of the Christmas tree, sharing hearty meals, laughing over good stories, and expanding our circle of friendship even further. There was a special kind of magic in the air: soft snow falling outside and warmth inside brought people closer. And the weeks went by, it suddenly dawned on me that something quite unexpected was happening: I was beginning to love winter in Tahoma. It's you and all of us together, and I seemed to be complaining less and less about snow-most of all, embracing it as part of this new chapter's beauty in our lives. OOC Information The goal is to promote passive and ranch roleplay through many interactions with the locals and travellers and expand our stories together through rich and complex character progression. The preferred method of joining is through IC interactions, but feel free to reach out through discord: adam9209 to seek roleplay or set up an event with us and to also make sure our times align for such interactions.

The unique infrastructure of the ranch proper also includes a general store and saloon, each building serving its own unique purpose in the enterprising young group. The general store serves as a storefront to offer the variety of products produced at the ranch: Veterinary products, livestock produce, and even surplus stock from the distillery. The Sunset Saloon is located on the trail heading into the ranch proper from the train station. The locale serves as a rest stop for both visitors and ranch employees, providing a place to relax and enjoy the locally brewed liquors from the distillery on the grounds.

OOC Information We aim to provide an enjoyable and roleplay abundant experience to all those we interact with and show what life was really like on a small family owned ranch in the early 1900s, the hardships you were bound to face and the true struggle that engulfed many small ranches during this time. All recruitment is done in-game (IC'ly), unless time zones render you unable to or something else, feel free to PM me on the forums. If you have any other questions, queries, or qualms regarding the ranch, feel free to message @Fionn on the forums. (This thread is subject to regular updates in correlation to in-game activities.)
  8. Introduction Pronghorn Ranch stands at the western entrance to Big Valley, nestled in northern West Elizabeth County. Two decades past, it was a picturesque homestead. A stable grew into a stud farm, expanding with larger pens, a forge, a bunkhouse, and additional lodgings. Pronghorn has since alternated between cattle and horse ranching. The Valley cradled all manner of life. Ownership of Pronghorn Ranch has changed hands many times. Sold for profit to enterprising ranchers or relinquished due to economic hardship. The Pronghorn deed has thus passed down through the years—until now. The Reid family hails from Kansas, playing a part in its tumultuous pre-Civil War formation. Though they possessed a sizable parcel of land, it fractured among siblings upon the patriarch's passing. Difficulties beset them: rustlers, escaped Natives from the south, and the misfortune that cattle seemed to invite. Yet, like a pendulum, the land swung between extremes. Oil surveyors discovered vast seeps across the range. The siblings sold their holdings one by one, all except Ambrose Reid and his brother, Benjamin. Benjamin Reid met a tragic end, shot dead outside his home. Fear for his family eclipsed Ambrose's stubborn pride in holding onto the land. He resolved to sell and set his sights on Tahoma. ∗ ∗ ∗ Life on the ranch consists of hard labor. Most tasks are mundane: caring after livestock and the various repairs and upkeep required around the homestead. Still, there’s a sense of a close-knit community on the range, and no blood needs to be shared to form bonds of kinship with those that work the range.

  10. Little Creek Ranch is a fledgling ranch named after the creek its nestled beside. Located in northwest Big Valley along the pass leading towards Colter, it sits at the foot of expansive mountain rangeland teeming with wildlife. In the spring of 1899 Dalton Kinsley acquired the property as a speculative investment given the long-standing profitability of the cattle & beef trade. Jeremy Burke, an experienced rancher, was hired to manage the establishment for him and provide practical oversight as well as find ranch-hands and various employees. The property was considered ramshackle - sitting abandoned and often used by squatters for the previous decade - and as such it was purchased for a cheaper price than established ranches located to the south & east. The area itself is considered challenging due to the cold winters and the abundance of predators - wolves, grizzlies, and the occasional cougar make the region intimidating for settling & livestock rearing. Despite this and its comparable lack of infrastructure it sits on the only range-land north of the lower Montana river & west of the Dakota river, with close proximity to the growing town of Strawberry. With the growth of Strawberry and the increased demand for dairy & beef products in Tahoma's urban centers, the promise of return on Dalton's investment seems likely - but it will require the hard work of the various individuals Burke can find willing to take employment in a remote and rugged region. While the main venture of Little Creek Ranch is the ranging of beef cattle, dairy production & agricultural activities suited to the region (apple orcharding, short season crops) will also be pursued. OOC: We're looking to portray a more rugged frontier style ranch at a slightly smaller scale than other ranch-locations. Our goal is create RP that can benefit the general region as well, including those who RP Strawberry locals or frontier hunters, trappers, and prospectors.
