Armadillo is one of the few remaining boomtowns of the American West that's under developing seemingly hasn't progressed from the 1880s, in contrast to the modern industrialized northern settlements characterized by the city of Blackwater. Armadillo is a common hangout for bandits, who continue to bring violence and chaos to the town. Duels are not uncommon, making it a place where danger is ubiquitous. "This was a boomtown, with mostly wooden buildings constructed quickly by settlers heading into the West to seek their fortunes. A recent outbreak of cholera has devastated the once prosperous town, forcing many businesses to close their doors." Armadillo, a small, dusty town nestled in the heart of the New Austin County, embodies the rugged charm of a bygone era of the American West. With its wooden saloons and sun-bleached storefronts, the town buzzes with the activities of ranchers, outlaws, and travelers alike. The air is thick with the scent of leather and gunpowder, punctuated by the distant sound of cattle lowing and the clink of spurs on wooden boards. A central dirt road, often stirred up by the hooves of horses and the wheels of wagons, serves as the lifeblood of the community, leading to the bustling marketplace where local goods and stories are exchanged. As the sun sets, the flickering lanterns cast a warm glow, illuminating the faces of weary souls who gather at the saloon for a drink and a game of cards, making Armadillo a microcosm of ambition, survival, and the untamed spirit of the frontier.

The Holy Peak People (Naatomiistáko'p) Origins The Sacred Mountain Makoyi are a recently formed band comprised of various Makoyi misfits, outcasts, and outliers. It was originally founded by exiles from Secret Lake, but it's membership is now much more diverse. Due to extreme circumstances, a handful of exiles of the Lake people were forced to band together for survival. They settled along the Owanjila fleeing Secret Lake persecution. It was nearby on Mount Shann that they found a few people of a long-forgotten band of Elk Face people known as the Holy Peak people or Naatomiistáko'p. Numbering only a dozen or less, these people enlightened the exiles with their knowledge of Mount Shann and their history. They had avoided the reservations but had become dispersed in the surrounding areas along the way. Not having a chief for many decades. A band so small and isolated on Mount Shann that many younger Makoyi were not even aware of their existence. To the Makoyi at large, the area was regarded by many to be the realm of skinwalkers. The exiles used this to their advantage and began to court these people into joining their newly formed band, position what remained of these Holy Peak people against Secret Lake. They sought allies from every corner of the area: Other Makoyi, other natives, and even sometimes the odd white man. What were considered pale demons before by many were viewed less threatening than the the mad chief of Secret Lake and the aggression of their people Emboldened as their numbers began to swell, they began to head north beyond Colter breaking out various other Makoyi from reservations. Mainly targeting Rising Mountain reservations as this was the background of one of it's leaders, Crow Song. Wandering Elk Face people also made their way to the band's camps due to their affinity with the Holy Peak people. Due to their exiled status, and the Makoyi belief that any led by an exile is an exile themselves, the band is also referred to as Makoyóhkomaki or Bad Wolves. Crow Song and the others have thus embraced this identity in the face of these rising tensions. The Holy Peak People (Naatomiistáko'p as they likely appeared in the early 18th century) The Naatomiistáko'p, also known as the Holy Peak people, has it's origins in the early 1700s as the Makóyi expanded from Mount Hagen into Big Valley and ultimately to Mount Shann. Here, they began to distinguish themselves as the People of the Holy Mountain, marking a significant religious divergence from other Makóyi groups due to their reverence for Mount Shann, which over the course of generations they came to incorporate into their religious beliefs. Residing on Mount Shann for nearly two centuries, they adapted fiercely to the rugged terrains, with this adaptation permeating all facets of their culture—from hunting and gathering to their methods of warfare. Their societal evolution reflected their profound connection to the mountain, which they considered sacred. The aftermath of the Battle of Big Valley in 1876 marked a pivotal era of change for the Naatomiistáko'p. The intensified efforts to eliminate the Makóyi presence led to the merging of the Sacred Mountain Band with the remnants of the Makoyópowáóowahsin ("Rising Mountain") and Ponokáísski ("Elk Face") bands. Many of these band members were forcibly relocated to reservations, but a significant number fled to Mount Shann to evade the authorities. For decades, this band remained transient, moving frequently around the mountainous regions from Mount Hagen to the Montana River. Despite the isolation, the Naatomiistáko'p occasionally traded with the Ponokáísski and maintained connections with their cousins from the Rising Mountain. Even after the broader Makóyi Confederacy's surrender to the American military in 1891, the Sacred Mountain Band persevered. However, a brutal crackdown in 1896, driven by the broader conflicts involving other Makóyi bands, led to a forcible displacement from Mount Shann. The dispersed Naatomiistáko'p sought refuge among smaller, scattered bands or settled in the valleys below. Their history of integration, isolation, and subsequent diaspora renders the Naatomiistáko'p uniquely assimilated yet markedly isolationist and xenophobic, even towards other Makóyi. Their story is one of resilience and fierce independence, striving to maintain their unique cultural identity amidst changing landscapes. Modern Times (Naatomiistáko'p band encampment circa 1887) Recently, the Naatomiistáko'p band has fallen on extremely hard times. Due to the activities of other bands in the Confederacy, coupled with increased pressures from the United States government and the encroachment of settlers, they have been forced to reconsider their once isolationist stance. The early years of the 20th century have seen the band grappling with profound changes, pushing them towards a more assimilated and adaptable approach to survival. As the traditional lands of the Makóyi have been overrun and their resources depleted, the Sacred Mountain Band has started to engage more with the outside world. They are increasingly seen in nearby towns, trading not just in goods but in ideas and technologies that were once foreign to them. This engagement has brought electricity, firearms, and other modern conveniences into their lives, altering their daily existence and their long-held beliefs. In a turn toward the spiritual practices of other Plains Indians, the Naatomiistáko'p have embraced beliefs such as the Ghost Dance, hoping to invoke the spirits of ancestors to return the land to its original state before the arrival of Europeans. Intrigued by tales from other tribes, they have also begun to incorporate stories and beliefs surrounding Skinwalkers into their folklore, blending these new elements with their traditional veneration of Mount Shann. Religious syncretism has become a survival strategy, helping to bind the band together in the face of external pressures and internal divisions. These changes reflect a broader trend among the Naatomiistáko'p of adapting to and incorporating outside influences while trying to preserve the core of their identity. Some have even begun a slight turn towards Christian elements. Moreover, the band has opened its arms to other Makóyi from older, more traditional bands, including those exiled from the Secret Lake who are often referred to derogatorily as Makoyóohkomak, or "Bad Wolves." These individuals, once shunned for their perceived transgressions or failures, are now accepted as part of a broader effort to consolidate strength and unity. The integration of these Makóyi, with their varied experiences and skills, has injected new vitality into the band, helping them to navigate their evolving world. As they move into the 20th century, the Naatomiistáko'p find themselves at a crossroads, balancing between the preservation of their heritage and the inevitable march of progress. Their adaptation and resilience, tested by years of hardship and change, underscore their enduring spirit and determination to thrive despite the challenges of an increasingly modern landscape. The Sacred Mountain Band, once secluded and mysterious, now steps forward into a new era, hopeful yet cautious about the future they are shaping. Membership (Naatomiistáko'p band members circa 1895) Most members are expected to have origins from the Naatomiistáko'p of Mount Shann. However, due to the circumstances of this band and the greater Makóyi Confederacy at large, members from the other, far older historical bands of the Makóyi Ótapi’sin are also accepted. This extends to members of the Rising Mountain, Big Coyote, Elk Face and Secret Lake people, whose fates have intertwined through shared challenges and battles. Our doors are even open to the Makoyóohkomak, or "Bad Wolves," those exiled for past transgressions yet seeking redemption and unity in the face of adversity. Due to their circumstances, the Naatomiistáko'p have also been known to affiliate with Native warriors from other tribes whose own bands have been decimated by the relentless campaigns of the US Army. While traditionalist minority factions within the band disagree, the Band has even been known to adopt such Natives whom prove their loyalty. We maintain a cautious stance towards outsiders, recognizing the complex history we share with white settlers. To the more radical, these settlers are seen as invaders to be eradicated. To others, they are unwelcome guests that can be learned from. Regardless, white Europeans are not accepted on the whole, but there are rumours of extraordinary circumstances once in a generation. We'd like members to share our enthusiasm for what we're trying to portray. That is an eclectic band focused on survival, community building, and a shared cultural history. Members who wish to join the Naatomiistáko'p, and stand with us as guardians of Mount Shann and defenders of their fleeting way of life. Mission We aim to portray the remnants of a tribal band on cultural decline, distinctly different from the broader "Makóyi Ótapi’sin", which embodies the traditional, uncivilized, outlaw image of Plains Indians. Our representation is of a band more civilized and assimilated, and by extension open to coexistence. Our mission is to depict a band that, while facing cultural erosion, is simultaneously adapting to the influences of both white European settlers and other Plains Indian tribes. As the Naatomiistáko'p, we acknowledge the encroachment of European customs and technologies which weave through our daily lives, shaping our interactions and challenging our traditions. Yet, we also draw strength from our Native neighbors, adopting practices that resonate with our spiritual needs and enhance our resilience. Our band is markedly isolationist, keeping a wary distance from outsiders to protect what remains of our culture and sovereignty. Yet, fiercely militant in our defense, standing as vigilant guardians against any threats to our territory and people. We strive to strike a balance between embracing necessary changes for survival and fiercely resisting the dilution of our heritage. In this light, our portrayal is not just a story of decline but also one of adaptation and subtle resistance. We offer a narrative of a people who navigate the complex tides of history, culture, and identity, crafting a unique path forward in the face of an ever-evolving world. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ One of the few settlements in the Ambarino territory, Colter is a town with a sordid history and an uncertain future... Formally established in 1879 by J.F. Colter, the town had existed as a nameless entity throughout the early years of the gold rush. Its population peaked the same year as its incorporation, and at one point its profitable mining operations rivaled even Annesburgs. Such fortune would not remain, however. In 1884, a massive winter storm slammed the state, and Colter was hit the hardest. With mountain passes clogged with snow and supply lines suspended, the population of Colter found themselves isolated and starved. By the time spring came and the snow melted, the population had been decimated by sickness and starvation. Many of the survivors left Colter, hoping to put the devastation of the storm behind them. Some remained, and to this day the children of miners and mountain-men still make their home in Colter. In the following years, Colter's isolation has attracted another kind of settler. Criminals, squatters, and outcasts have taken to hiding in the cold mountains, where the law and "good society" rarely venture. The taciturn and practical locals rarely ask questions— they have little left to lose after 1884— and the dregs know that its best not to shit where they sleep. As the town grows once again with a hodge-podge of survivalists, enterprising miners, and pariahs, it seems as though the dream of J.F. Colter and the original mountain settlers might be realized again. Will they thrive in the high peaks of Ambarino? Or will they fade into another long winter? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Credit to @kari for the header graphic and the Colter crest.

This is a community thread for residents of, and visitors of, West Elizabeth and Blackwater to share communal roleplay. The County of West Elizabeth has been a rich part of South Tahoma's lore consistently since server launch, across many flavours. The initial law enforcement presence began on April 27th 2023 under Swift12x, which was quickly followed up by Zuhils. While both of these iterations of the WESO saw slithers of roleplay; neither survived the test of time. Stability was brought into contestion at the beginning of what would soon to be known as the "WESO War", which saw a conjoined effort of the West Elizabeth Sheriff's Department and Blackwater Police Department rise against the Federal Government, eventually ending in the County declaring itself a free State for 36 days. The militia rose in unity against the perceived injustices and impediments of their rights by agents of Federal law enforcement, and upper political and judicial state officials. At the head of the charge, was Mayoral-Elect Solomon Justice and Sheriff Boyd Crawford - who led a vast citizenship under one banner to challenge the alleged improper practices of the Federal Government. The town of Strawberry was suspected of harboring confederates; however the Tahoma Rangers engaged in an illegal search warrant by going door-to-door in the town in search of information, invoking Marshal Isaiah Warden's name as authorisation, which later became known to be questionable at best. It was later proved by Marshal Alonso Carson that the town and it's local council were aiding confederates, and received an approved warrant for the arrest of key members of the conspiracy, and for Blackwater Police Chief Llewellyn Banthorpe for being an accessory after-the-fact. The soon-to-be militia did not go quietly. They approached the City of Blackwater in a militia of approximately ~10 to ~20 people, where a standoff between the United States Marshal Service and the newly found militia ended in gunfight. It was then that the respective parties of the unity would come to be known as the Free State of West Elizabeth. Key members of the 1899 rebellion are still wanted for treason, but have since gone into hiding and make scarce appearances in the State of Tahoma, known colloquially to locals as folk heroes by the alias of the Hands of Justice Gang. A history forever etched in the books of West Elizabeth, that has not truly come to a close yet - and perhaps never will. Enter 1900. Stability and prosperity dawns on the County of West Elizabeth - and more importantly, peace. Many ranch and farmlands have taken up new ownership after the divisive conflict, as well as local businesses in the city of Blackwater; such as Doctor Finnegan Kennedy, Gunsmith Colton Matthews, and Sheriff Jan Marek at the head of law enforcement. As the dust settled after the civil conflict, one Mortimer Drummond; a new face in West Elizabeth, a war veteran with a newfound taste for power and a twisted sense of morality rose. He discovered that the chaos of war had opened doors to corruption and illicit opportunities, and he wasted no time exploiting them. His skills in manipulation and coercion served him well as he climbed the ranks of local politics, eventually securing the position of Mayor in the small City of Blackwater. With haste, he began to make immediate plans for the City of Blackwater to put it back on the map; in an effort to compete against the to-be industrial titan that is Saint Denis. He sought to launch the Blackwater Restoration Project, which would see an immense focus be put on constructive-based reimagining of the City's derelict and empty commercial shopfronts; and a focus on local laboring - primarily that of the woodworking industry. "The City shall be funding a major rebirth project of the commercial and civil devices within the City. We shall begin with three major construction projects; a state of the art medical facility, a reimagining of City Hall and the courthouse, and a commitment to the hospital sector." Mayor M. S. Drummond, City Hall Community Meeting, March 10th 1990 The City begins to see new life; as old faces who are no longer deemed 'reliable' are ejected and reaplced with fruitful life to bring a sense of commercialisation to the City. Gunsmith Fritz Liebknecht is granted ownership of the local weaponworks, Doctor Joy Quiggley heads the City as the leading clinician and Sheriff Jan Marek is pseudo-ousted by the Mayor and replaced by Sheriff Thomas Langley. The Mayor invoked a new and revamped Police Department, headed by one Chief G. McMillan is appointed by the Office of the Mayor. Change is on the horizon. Change continues, and the people of Blackwater are happy. Mayor Mortimer Drummond is held in high favour by those of the local populace; but clearly has a motive to keep Blackwater at the peak of his political motivations - whether as a vehicle for his power, or a legitimate agenda - remains to be seen. The introduction of the City of Blackwater Ordinance Code sees local laws focused on the excommunication of those of foreign descent, and gender-based laws come to fruition. The policies and power of the Mayor begin to come into controversial rumours in the alleys of Blackwater, and the citizenship begin to wonder where his mind is at. West Elizabeth is not only a picturesque backdrop but also a place where the narrative of South Tahoma unfolds. The complex relationships between characters, the challenges of survival in the rugged wilderness, and the clash of old traditions and conflictable history with the encroaching modern world make West Elizabeth a rich and captivating setting that aims to contribute significantly to the story of South Tahoma. Blackwater was a town on the fringes of civilization, a place where law and order were previously mere suggestions, and Drummond found himself right at home.

A COMMUNITY THREAD for Residents, Visitors and Enjoyers of Saint Denis to post Collective, Collaborative and Cooperative media and roleplay. The City of Saint Denis stands as the industrial titan of Tahoma, aptly nicknamed as the Crown Jewel of Lemoyne. The troubled social landscape of the city has long since been a heavy topic for people of Tahoma; as the unsettling history of the city's social and political endeavours have been dragged through mud, kicking and screaming while being hoisted up the flagpole of modern journalism. Tragedies rings true for the historical predecessors of the Mayor's office and Chief of Police's precinct all the same; as all men with a code of ethics and an armour embedded with honor are relentlessly bombarded with the looming criminality of the Bowery and the organised syndicates of the high street all the same. The streets of our beautiful Captial are left to the wolves as a struggling police department attempts to spar and grapple with the rising threats to the citizenship. Through the era of a political uprising in the form of the infamous Socialists, the multiple assassinations of major political figures who dare to step up to the throne of city leadership, and the lacking civil service resources of the current iteration of the S.D.P.D. and local governence; the city hangs in the balance as the immigration of Italian and Irish bandits, hooligans and troublesome individuals pose a new threat to the peace and civility of this entrepreneurial hub. Now, in the year 1900, a new chapter of Saint Denis is surely about to be turned as the lawful agency sees new blood and breath. It wasn't until one Chief Russ McCluskey took the reigns of the SAINT DENIS POLICE DEPT. that a resurgence in urban policing made a return. Alongside the advancing technological commerce of Saint Denis; the roster, work ethic, headquarters and devices used in the First Precinct all ran parallel to the progressing City. The Detective's Bureau and Patrol Division of the Force became fully developed, and the streets of St. Denis were once more being graced with the blues of the local policeman. With the uprise of organised crime once again, through notorious families such as the Gaetano, Dalmasso and Malgeri, known locally as THE MALGERI CONNECTIONS, there was a clear need for a more concentrated lawful force to patrol the streets. Families and legacies ooze out the social landscape, as key players such as the LARSSONS, GAETANOS, LAMBERTS, LUTHERS, CHATSWORTHS and BLACKLEYS all stake their claim in the fragmented social dynamics of the City, hoping to become the next big thing and take any and all advantages presented to them in their endeavours to claim a slice of the pie for their own. Their motives? Questionable, perhaps. Concerning, moreover, to a resident of the shining jewel. The intertwining connections, agendas and directives of these bloodlines could spell tragedy, disaster or promise and prevelance to the people of Saint Denis; but these plans are yet to come to fruition, and are yet to open the Pandora's Box of family feuds. The beauty of the THÉÂTRE RÂLEUR and LA BASTILLE are restored under the imagination and ambition of Ms. Desdemona Warwick and Ms. Emilienne Valeura respectively, in an attempt to reignite the once wonderous nightlife of Saint Denis. Under the efforts of plays, musicals, dinners and cigar lounges - the new magnate and tycoons of the city hope to rise alongside the reinvigorated law enforcement efforts in hopes of seeing their once shining capital be the star of the show once more. It is to be hoped that the glow of these new enterprises will inspire a new wave of business, trade, commerce and leisurely travellers riding through the City, and to restore the Crown Jewel of Lemoyne to it's former glory.
