  1. by virtue of being in a farming society we're assuming you're not going to abuse the script. Groups caught doing so typically have their whitelist access to such things removed anyways

  3. The way the age progresses on a horse makes this a very interesting subject to have to tackle. After having done roleplay around it for such a long time, ALOT of it is handwavy and suspension of disbelief. All in all, the way you have noted handling it seems to be the best way you can, given the mechanics and trying to make sense of it all. Typically I try to avoid speaking on the timing at all! You can still have meaningful roleplay around the horses and their progression without having to get too down in the weeds over it all. I know this sounds very cynical, but ALOT of players don't give a shit and just want their 1900 Percy Mustang to zip around the map on. I'll typically leave bits and pieces of the breeding roleplay ambiguous and disconnected from one another. Roleplay one horse giving birth to a foal? Well make that an isolated event, and it's not the horse you're selling to a player per-say 10 days later when you can ride them. Roleplaying walking a foal and training it? Same idea, it's not the fully adult horse that you're selling a player in another couple days that's a full adult and rideable. Roleplaying paying a player to use their horse as a stud? Well this one's a bit more tricky, especially if you promise them a horse from borrowing it. Comes down to trying to be creative with the source of the horse. It's a bit hand wavy, but I often state something along the lines on my character of "Oh this one was a part of my herd, bred from this horse and this horse some time ago" and leave things ambiguous. They'll still have meaning with the lineage, that your character raised them, but there's a degree of suspension of disbelief that needs to be had to accommodate for the awkward timelapse. I'm sure as time goes on you'll find a good way to roleplay around it so it's not necessarily immersion breaking. I also know it has very little to do with the time lapse, but I also like to roleplay buying a horse from the stables script is "Visiting the importer" and ordering a horse from a catalogue from out of state. Diversifying the traits and the herd, etc.
  4. Horses in Tahoma Horses were essential at the turn of the century for a variety of facets of life. From hauling carts and draft horses for working the fields, to trail riding and horses bred specifically for shows and races; horses were a cornerstone for American culture. For the organization purposes of this guide, the horses will be categorized by Stables Access rather than the breed's purpose. All-Access Breeds These horse breeds will be accessible to purchase from the stables for All Characters. These are the most common horses found throughout the region. Horse Trainer Breeds These horse breeds are less common, but are found in the wilderness of Tahoma. As such, they are purchasable from the stables for Horse Trainer whitelisted characters. Native American Breeds These horses are commonly used and raised by Native Americans, and are often found in the wilderness of Tahoma. The are purchasable from stables by Native whitelisted characters. Horse Breeder Breeds These horses aren't found commonly in the wild, most often imported from other countries for breeding and selling for use in Tahoma. These horses can be purchasable in the stables for characters with the Horse Breeder whitelist. Ranch Exclusive Breeds These horses have monopolies held on them by specific Official Ranch Factions. As such, they are only available for purchase from the stables of members of the given factions. Please note: This is a work in progress thread. I merely wanted to make sure there was at least one guide with pictures to the various horse coats. There are a plethora of decent horse guides detailing what different breeds were used for what purpose, and how to properly tend to your horse. I do, however, plan to update this guide with the aforementioned information in the near future.

  6. CLAGHORN MUNITIONS Once made home in the Annesburg Gunsmith shop, Edward Beauregard Claghorn (or as he'd insist, Ted) moved locations to Valentine to be in the bustle. As his business boomed, he set sights on Blackwater. He owned the gun shop there for a meager amount of time, but decided the life of a semi-retired, mail-in order gunsmith would suit him better. So he created the Claghorn Catalogue and set about leaving a copy at every post office from Blackwater to Saint Denis:
  7. I agree with all of these points. As far as I know, point 4 is a bit off as there are cooldowns that happen after you do a chore/feed/herd. I'd like to tack on a few additional suggestions: 1) Make it so admins can lock, when creating the ranch, which type of livestock is at a ranch script in a particular location. Not every location with a ranch will have the room or facilities to raise all the types of farm animals. I think this will help make the script more readily available and robust, even allowing some farms to get in on the script if they have chicken coops, single pens, etc. 2) Make it so theres differing herd sizes and allow them to be location locked. Larger ranches having the ability to hold larger herds. Perhaps this can be done by designating a small, medium, and large herd size. It could play into the other siggestions by requiring more feed and more attention on the chores and tasks, but yield 1x, 2x, and 3x profits and goods when harvested and butchered. I think this adds some more degree of realism, as some locations have larger pens and would support more cattle than others. It'd require a larger group of players to sustain as well. 3) Add sheep (or perhaps replace goats). Could make their harvest material wool, butchering materials wool and mutton.

I believe this could work extremely well if the ranching script could be amended to be much like the farming script: Make it where you can have lower/higher quantities depending on location (Farms having less access, bigger ranches having more) Make it so you can restrict animal types on locations (Not having cows in a place without proper pens, etc) This, of course, would be in addition to having the current script working as intended.

  10. Roleplay Opportunities The Sunset Dale aims to provide an authentic roleplay experience of the various workings of a large ranch within the Old West from ranch hands to watchmen. Though the Sunset Dale is a relatively new entity, though those running the operations are professionals in the industry with life-long experiences, doing what they can to pursue their individual goals while contributing to the welfare of all those present on the ranch. The faction is currently hiring with many roles to fill. Being an enterprising group with plans to service as a roleplay hub, Sunset Dale has a variety of roles to fill from ranch hands to watchmen, saloon tenders to general store stockers, wagon drivers to cattle drive bosses. If there's a need for a service within New Hanover that can realistically be filled by Sunset Dale, we intend to do so.
